"I am 70 years old and the medical insurance industry is inscrutable. Having moved to Caledonia county recently, i found out that my Medicare Advantage plan was no longer available, apparently because I moved to Caledonia county recently. So yeah- welcome to Health Care in America. But, being 70 years old, I decided to contact the NEK Council on aging, (fantastic group! If you are 65 or older, don't leave home without them!) and after about 30 minutes with Andrea , it was pretty apparent that the State Farm Medicare Supplemental plan was what I was gonna go with. (I believe my choices were between State Farm, General Mills and Hasbro) So, being less than 10 miles from Lyndonville, where Brett Gale Insurance, the local State Farm agent was located, and it being a lovely windy rainy still-not-yet winter day in the Northeast Kingdom, I figured I would drop in unannounced and see whether I could wrap up this whole thing without an additional hundred trips to random places, which is basically what the motto of the Northeast Kingdom should be- "Welcome to Vermont! We have everything you need in Littleton, New Hampshire Beinvenue Au!." I walked into the Agency office and was immediately greeted by a lovely young woman who seemed genuinely interested in helping me. I explained what I needed and Shannon Goodine stepped me through the process of signing up for Medicare Supplemental. Now she is, to my eye, about sixteen years old, (lovely girl) so I have no idea how she knows what someone my age needs for insurance, but she is seriously wise beyond her years. She was helpful, knowledgeable and kind, and explained everything that needed to be explained. More importantly, she put up with a 70 year old who truly was out of his depth in this field. (and the red hair....) I am quickly discovering that business in Vermont is different from business in Connecticut, where I come from. People are kinder, more patient and genuinely try to help, and Shannon epitomized that. I was there for maybe an entire 30 minutes and when I left, I felt that she had comfortably slayed my Medicare dragons for the upcoming year. (and I had a new mouse pad and an ice scraper! State Farm swag!) Shannon was great and I could not be happier. I highly recommend her, at least in the field of dealing with cranky, worried old men and health insurance. I suppose she could be awful at auto insurance, but frankly, I would be willing to give her a shot. In all seriousness, I want to thank Shannon for making what could have been a bureaucratic nightmare into a stunningly efficient and astonishingly pleasant experience. "I recently hit a moose and my car was totalled and I was hurt. I drove all the way to lyndonville to sign over the title to make sure it was done right in front of the agent. The agent gave me bad information and I didn't add Jr to my signature as I NEVER use it. State farm cancelled payment on my settlement check because it didn't say Jr. So I am still home with no car and no money hurt . I'm unable to go to medical appointments and they promised to overnight me a check I'm still waiting for.. Their incompetence is costing me money and work on top of it.... I am not renewing my homeowners policy or the car and truck I have insured with them. I have a perfect driving record. No DUI 's ever. No judgements , adjunctions, accidents or suspensions. I am looking for a new company and new agents.."
